Florence Ménard Cuepaliztli is a French visionary artist whose work brings together the meticulous painting traditions of Ernst Fuchs and the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism with meditation, inner exploration, nature, and feminine spirituality. Her art and teaching explore the transformation of inner visions and spiritual experiences into symbolic, highly detailed paintings.
Florence Ménard, known artistically and spiritually as Cuepaliztli, has a particularly unusual trajectory. She did not follow the conventional path of an art-school-trained painter. Instead, her journey moved progressively from communication and art history, to working alongside major visionary artists, to painting herself, and finally to teaching and spiritual exploration.
Her life and work bring together four worlds that are usually separate: visionary painting, traditional painting techniques, inner exploration, and ritual spirituality.
She works within a highly technical European painting tradition, particularly the layered tempera-and-oil approach associated with the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism.
She passes these techniques on to other artists and helps students develop their own visionary imagery.
Through meditation, sound and Inner Journeying, she encourages people to explore their own internal imagery.
Her involvement with the Moondance and contemporary shamanic practices brings a ritual dimension to her work.
